The San Francisco 49ers have now lost two games in a row after last night’s 22-17 setback against the Minnesota Vikings.
After an impressive start to the season, San Francisco’s second-year quarterback Brock Purdy has struggled in back-to-back weeks, throwing three interceptions including two in the fourth quarter Monday.
Purdy entered the NFL with limited pedigree as “Mr. Irrelevant,” the last pick of the draft. As a result, some of have been questioning how good he really is, and now they have added ammo following his past two performances.
On First Take this morning, Shannon Sharpe reminded viewers that he had been questioning Purdy for several weeks now.
“I knew what [Brock Purdy] was to begin with. … When the defense can’t be perfect … and they ask Brock Purdy to deliver us, he didn’t. … If Brock Purdy is elite, we need another definition for Patrick Mahomes.”

“Brock Purdy likely will generate the most conversation from this game. While he didn’t play his best, the 49ers could not get the Vikings off the field on 3rd down. That’s where the game was won. Purdy isn’t in danger of losing his job or anything, but he and the Niners need to pick things up soon.
San Francisco’s next two games are against the Bengals and Jaguars, and they still have a pair of games against Seattle plus matchups with Philadelphia and Baltimore on the docket.
