Joe Burrow re-aggravates calf as Bengals fall to Ravens, who lose Odell Beckham

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow confirmed after the team’s Week 2 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at Paycor Stadium that he re-aggravated his calf. Odell Beckham Jr., meanwhile, suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter and did not return to the game.

Burrow, 26, missed all of training camp and preseason with the calf injury and has been looking rusty in his return to action. After throwing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Tee Higgins in the closing minutes of the game, the Bengals QB limped off the field.

He was seen using a massage gun to keep the calf loose and Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browning even started to warm up in case the offense went back on the field — they didn’t.

Ravens ran out the clock to seal their second victory of the 2023 NFL season. Bengals have an 0-2 record.

Burrow’s offense did not put up any points in their season opener. Both of his TD passes Sunday went to Higgins. He also had an interception.

Lamar Jackson is rolling

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns on 24-for-33 completed passes. One of his TD passes went to tight end Mark Andrews, who finished the contest with 45 receiving yards on five catches after missing opening week with injury.

Rookie receiver Zay Flowers is quickly becoming a top option for Jackson and head coach John Harbaugh.

Flowers, 23, racked up 62 receiving yards on just four catches, but no score. Nelson Agholor was the recepient of Jackson’s second TD pass to go with his 63 receiving yards on five catches.

Running back Gus Edwards had 62 yards from scrimmage, but his came on the ground via 10 carries, and also added a touchdown.

Odell Beckham Jr. injury

Beckham Jr., 30, had 29 yards on three catches when he left the field with an ankle injury, though Harbaugh doesn’t believe it’s “serious.”

“I don’t think it’s serious injuries for either person,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll learn more tomorrow. But I don’t believe either one of those is going to be serious as it looks right now.”

Beckham Jr. has struggled with several injuries over the past few seasons, but always shines when he is healthy.

Ravens host the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday and Bengals will look for their first win of the season as they play Monday Night Football at home against the Los Angeles Rams on September 25.
