Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce was a finalist in the 2023 edition of PEOPLE‘s “Sexiest Man Alive” award, which he lost to Patrick Dempsey, but the NFL star, who reacted to the nod on Thursday, is the “people’s champion.”
Kelce, 36, made an appearance on Prime Video‘s Thursday Night Football broadcast as the Eagles are resting this week. He spoke of becoming a finalist for the award and joked that it took long enough to get some recognition.
“I don’t know how this all happened, but it’s honestly just another day,” Kelce said. “My wife tells me all the time I’m the sexiest man in the world, so I’ve been wondering what’s been taking so long for this nomination to happen.
“It’s been a whirlwind; it’s been fun. It’s a win for plus-sized bearded men all over.”

Kelce went on to state, in a sarcastic tone, how he will work towards becoming sexier for next year’s edition.
“It’s more about self-reflection,” Kelce said. “What could I have done to be better? How could I have been sexier? I don’t know. I did the best I could.”
Kelce, like his brother Travis, is currently the most popular player in the NFL thanks to a ton of success with the Eagles.
