Jason Kelce casts doubt on his NFL retirement

Jason Kelce likes the Eagles’ staff overhaul

Kelce, a staunch defender of embattled Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he approves of the franchise’s decision to reshape Sirianni‘s staff for 2024. The Eagles have hired highly-regarded offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to run the Jalen Hurts-led offense next season, while veteran defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will be tasked with making the Eagles’ defense a unit to fear once again.

The changes haven’t scared off 36-year-old Kelce — they have inspired him, to the point where he has even cast a little doubt on whether he wants to walk away from his playing career. But if Kelce does end up hanging up his cleats for good, he says he can’t see himself working in football anywhere else outside of Philly.

I still want to be involved in the organization and still want to be a part of it, regardless of what the decision is,” Kelce said of his possible retirement. “Because I don’t want to ever feel like I’m on the outside looking in on these achievements and these accolades and these opportunities that largely represent entire cities and fan bases and organizations. It’s too good a feeling to pass up.”

Kelce believes there’s something special about the Chiefs

Since his Eagles were eliminated after just one playoff game, Kelce has spent much of this year’s playoffs rooting for little brother Travis and his Chiefs — who, after beating Philly in the Super Bowl last season, have returned to the NFL’s pinnacle this season and could successfully defend the Vince Lombardi Trophy in two weeks’ time

Kelce is certainly planning to be at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Feb. 11, when the Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers and hope to win their third Super Bowl in five seasons. The elder Kelce believes there is a special, unrepeatable, intangible quality to Kansas City‘s squad that explains why it continues to be so successful — even if its road back to the Super Bowl this season required knocking off the AFC‘s top two seeds away from Arrowhead Stadium.
