In the recent Week One game between the Packers and the Bears, Rodgers texted Jordan Love, his successor, to remind him that he’s now the Bears’ new owner.

“I did send J a text, right after the Bears, when they pulled away I sent him a message because I wanted him to see it when he got back to his phone,” Rodgers told Pat McAfee. “I said, ‘Congratulations on keeping the ownership in place.’ That was pretty awesome for him.”

Rodgers went 24-5 as a starter against the Bears, making him one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history. Love, who took over from Rodgers this season, is now 1-0 against them.

Rodgers is working on his rehabilitation

Rodgers, who was traded to the Jets this offseason and suffered an Achilles tendon injury in Week One, is now rehabbing in California. However, he’s keeping a close eye on the league and staying in touch with old teammates. He’s also hoping to see Love continue the ownership of the Bears.

Rodgers’ text to Love is a testament to his competitive spirit and his desire to see his former team continue to dominate their rivals. Despite being traded away from Green Bay, Rodgers still has a deep connection with the team and its fans. Watching from the other side of the Great Lakes, the Green Bay Packers surely didn’t want to see their former Hall of Fame quarterback go down like he did. It might not have been a completely amicable split, but Rodgers brought a Super Bowl to the franchise after all.

Once Rodgers was ruled out for the entire year following an MRI confirming the injury, the reality set in for the Packers that the trade package they received for Rodgers lost significant value in the process.

Which pick do the Packers get?

The stipulations of the April trade that brought Rodgers to New York included the quarterback playing at least 65% of the Jets’ snaps this season in order for the Packers to receive New York’s first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Instead, the Packers will receive a second round pick.

It’s a very small silver lining for the Jets, but not one that anybody in that organization can console themselves with. The franchise lost their best chance at competing for a Super Bowl in 2023, and they still have to give away a second round pick for four total Rodgers snaps.

The Packers have already used a portion of their Rodgers trade package to draft EDGE Lukas Van Ness 13th overall and tight end Luke Musgrave 42nd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

It’s Wilson’s time to shine

Wilson came off the bench on Monday night and led the team to victory, although he still committed mistakes that have driven his coaches crazy through his first two seasons. Still, he did well given the circumstances

He has a great opportunity in front of him to re-route his career, which was heading in the wrong direction. Head coach Robert Saleh has already confirmed he will be the starter the rest of the season.

When asked by TMZ if he believes the Jets will make it to the Super Bowl this year with Rodgers leading the charge, Klecko didn’t hesitate, declaring, “Yes, I do think they will. Absolutely. With our four-time MVP, how could you not go to the Super Bowl?”

However, Klecko’s opinion appears to have evolved, likely influenced by Rodgers‘ impressive preseason debut with a beautiful 14-yard touchdown pass to second-year receiver Garrett Wilson. The quarterback will make his regular-season debut with the Jets on Monday, Sept. 11, facing the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.

Klecko, a former defensive lineman known for his time as part of the famed New York Sack Exchange, recorded an impressive 78 sacks during his 11 years with the Jets. His change of heart regarding Rodgers adds an interesting twist to the ongoing narrative surrounding the quarterback’s transition to his new team.

This move automatically made fans think that it was time to say good bye to the kicker after 16 years with the Packers, and although it’s an understandable conclusion, it’s not a 100% precise yet, since Mason Crosby nor the team haven’t confirmed anything. He might also be just moving somewhere else in the main city of Wisconsin, but according to the Green Bay Press Gazette,Tennessee can be his possible destination, due to the fact he just bought a home there.

Packers already drafted another kicker

Also, the Packers seem to be already planning a change in the position. Green Bay drafted Auburn’s kicker Anders Carlson during the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Remembering Mason Crosby was also drafted on a sixth round 16 years ago, it’s seems like a clear message.

Crosby will turn 39 on September, so retiring from the NFL may also be an option he can be thinking despite the fact he can still be counted as a reliable element for any team.

Since 2007, he has scored 395 field goals, and missed a total of 90 attempts. His longest one registers 58 yards, which he converted in 2011.

In the most recent season with the Green Bay Packers, Mason Crosby made 25 field goals and missed only four.

In an interview with Dennis Krause of Spectrum 1, the WR who’s going for his second year in the NFL, assured that Green Bay can look forward for another nice Era now with Jordan Love as a quarterback.

“I think Jordan can do it. I think Jordan is a really good quarterback. When you go from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan, Aaron was a really great quarterback, but I believe Jordan can do the same exact thing. So I don’t really see what’s the big difference”, Romeo Doubs said with total confidence on his teammate.

“I see a progression. I see it going up. I don’t see the Packers going down. I only focus on our room and our team in this organization. This organization is historic, and it’s only winning. That’s all. When you hear Green Bay, it’s no losing, it’s only winning”, the 23-year-old wide receiver assured.

Jordan Love’s got some work to do

Aaron Rodgers went on to win Super Bowl XLV with the Packers. Also, he managed to set the franchises record of most passing touchdowns with 475. He was named MVP four times, and was the NFL passer rating leader on another four occasions. Besides that, he holds three NFL records: single season passer rating (122.5 on 2011), lowest interception percentage in a season (0.3% on 2018), and consecutive passes without an interception (402).

So for Jordan Love to be up for the challenge, he must be able to follow some of this steps, being the most important one, of course, achieving another Super Bowl for the franchise.

Since being drafted in 2020, Love has thrown for three touchdowns and three interceptions in 10 games and 83 attempts.

Jordan Love’s career trajectory remains uncertain as he prepares to take over from the legendary Aaron Rodgers this season. In fact, he didn’t see any action during his rookie year.

While Love undoubtedly hopes to establish himself as one of the game’s greatest quarterbacks, he currently pales in comparison to the achievements of Patrick Mahomes. A straight-up trade between the two would be highly unlikely and illogical.

A trade like this would make no sense and is highly unlikely

Kansas City Chiefs‘ general manager, Brett Veach, would find such a proposal laughable. Giving up the best quarterback of his generation for an unproven commodity is simply inconceivable. Moreover, the Chiefs have invested significant financial resources in Mahomes, evident from his 10-year, $450 million contract. In 2023, Mahomes will carry a substantial $39.6 million cap hit.

The Packers, on the other hand, have limited cap space with only $14.2 million available, primarily due to Aaron Rodgers‘ hefty $40.3 million dead money. In contrast, Love’s one-year extension is valued at a mere $13.5 million. Therefore, from a financial standpoint alone, a trade between the two quarterbacks seems implausible.

Furthermore, it is unimaginable for any team to part ways with a quarterback who has recently won his second Super Bowl title and been named Super Bowl MVP twice. Jordan Love would need to achieve similar accolades before any trade discussions could be taken seriously. Even if he falls short of Super Bowl victories, he would have to earn All-Pro or Pro Bowl selections to match Mahomes’ credentials.

Patrick Mahomes has consistently demonstrated his excellence on the field, with two First Team All-Pro selections and five Pro Bowl appearances. Under his leadership, the Chiefs have reached the AFC Championship Game for five consecutive seasons, showcasing his ability to lead a successful team.

Lastly, Mahomes is entering the prime years of his career. Although concerns about ankle injuries before turning 30 may arise, he has proven his resilience and ability to triumph over adversity, most notably in Super Bowl LVII.

It is highly unlikely that Jordan Love will replace Patrick Mahomes as the Chiefs‘ quarterback. The Chiefs have no reason to “fix” a situation that is already thriving. Instead, their focus should be on bolstering their offensive line to protect their prized quarterback and sustain their success.
