The San Francisco 49ers continued their undefeated streak in the NFL season with a commanding 35-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium.
While the Cardinals tried to put up a fight, the 49ers’ offense, highlighted by the remarkable Christian McCaffrey, proved insurmountable in the second half.
McCaffrey breaks all-time 49ers record
Christian McCaffrey, the All-Pro running back, etched his name in the 49ers’ history books with a stellar performance.
McCaffrey opened the game with a one-yard touchdown run, marking his 13th consecutive game, including playoffs, with a touchdown surpassing Hall of Famer Jerry Rice’s previous franchise record of 12 straight games, which had stood since 1987.
McCaffrey’s impact didn’t stop there. He went on to score a career-best four touchdowns, three on the ground, and an 18-yard touchdown catch, finishing the day with 20 total carries for 106 yards on the ground and 7 catches for 71 yards in the air.
Brock Purdy sets own 49ers record
Not to be outdone by his running back, sophomore quarterback, Brock Purdy had a day to remember against the Cardinals defense completing 20 of 21 passes, amassing 283 yards, and scoring two touchdowns, one through the air and one on the ground. His QB rating for the night was 134.6.
Purdy’s95.2% completion rate set a new franchise record surpassing Steve Young’s 90% registered in 1991 against the Detroit Lions.
The 23-year-old is now only the fourth quarterback in history to start his NFL career with a 9-0 record or better.
As the 49ers look ahead to Week 5, they will face a significant test when they host the 3-1 Dallas Cowboys in a highly anticipated Sunday Night Football matchup.
