The San Francisco 49ers had a familiar face in for a workout on Thursday.

San Francisco worked out cornerback Jason Verrett, who was released from the Houston Texans’ practice squad on Wednesday. Verrett spent the 2019-22 seasons with the 49ers.

Unfortunately, he did not suit up for them often over those four campaigns, appearing in only 15 of a possible 66 games due to a plethora of injuries.

Overall, Verrett has played in only 20 games since 2016, missing the entire 2018 and 2022 seasons.

A first-round pick of the San Diego Chargers out of TCU in 2014, Verrett made the Pro Bowl in his second season, logging 47 tackles, three interceptions and 12 passes defensed in 2015.

Since then, he’s only managed to stay healthy during the 2020 season in San Francisco, when he recorded a career-high 60 tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defensed in 13 games.

During his career, Verrett has twice torn his ACL and Achilles. He’s also dealt with shoulder and ankle issues at different points.
